How to restart Windows 11 safe mode step-by-step process

There are two ways to restart Windows 11 in Safe Mode:

  1. From the sign-in screen

    1. On the Windows sign-in screen, press and hold the Shift key while you select Power > Restart.
    2. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    3. After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Or if you'll need to use the internet, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
  2. From Settings

    1. Press the Windows logo key + I on your keyboard to open Settings.
    2. Select System > Recovery.
    3. Under Recovery options, next to Advanced Startup, select Restart Now.
    4. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    5. After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Or if you'll need to use the internet, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.

To restart Windows 11 in Safe Mode using CMD, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows logo key + R to open Run.
  2. Type cmd and click OK to open the Command Prompt.
  3. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter to execute:
shutdown.exe /r /o
  1. Click the Close button when a pop-up dialog appears.

Your PC will now restart in Safe Mode.

Note: You can also restart Windows 11 in Safe Mode by using a bootable USB drive or DVD.
